The details below are now out-of-date
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The details below were correct in 2007. In 2008 prices increased around 25%.
The tickets you need are "Zone P+1" tickets.
Note that when you see Prague metro
ticket prices published the prices will generally be only for "Zone P" not "Zone
P+1".
So for example a "Zone P" 24 hour adult ticket currently costs 80kc while a
"Zone P+1"
24 hour adult ticket currently costs 120kc. (Click
here for a spreadsheet comparing
metro ticket prices.)
IdyllicPrague provide every individual Guest with 150 minute
"Zone P+1" ticket
free of
charge. [Since writing this the ticket system has chanced. Click
here for details.]
IdyllicPrague would prefer that Guests purchased their
bus/metro tickets at the lowest
possible prices. So IdyllicPrague recommend that when Guests travel into
Prague
City using their "free" "IdyllicPrague" tickets they buy additional tickets direct
from
the Dejvice metro ticket office. This is cheaper than buying additional
tickets from
IdyllicPrague. Even cheaper bus/metro/tram tickets can be purchased with
an ID Card.
There were fundamental changes to the Prague bus/metro/tram
ticket system
recently, and some confusion appears to be lingering following the changes.
We
notice in particular that the information given on several web sites can be
incomplete,
and hence misleading. We have therefore attempted to list our
understanding of the
ticket choices below, but we do not guarantee accuracy. If you spot any
error or
omission please send an eMail to
Web@IdyllicPrague.com.
A "Child" is from age 6 years old to age 15 years old inclusive.
Many special rules apply, particularly to tickets valid for
less than one day.
I often purchase the longer duration tickets even if multiple
short duration tickets
might prove cheaper. I prefer to buy the long duration Zone P+1 tickets
because
they provide a
blissful freedom to jump on and off busses trams and metros at
whim without
concern or hassle. The Prague public transport system is easy, fun,
efficient and
punctual. So enjoy it!
For Adult tickets of more than 5 days duration, and for
Child tickets of more than
3 days duration, cheaper tickets can be purchased with
a "Metro ID" card
which
looks something like this:- (click here
for a spreadsheet comparing prices)
In order to obtain a Metro ID card, you need to take an
application form (click
here)
to the booking office at Dejvice Metro Station, together with your passport, a
photo
and some cash.
A new system has recently been introduced, and we have heard
that Prague metro
may try to give you a less good "foreigners" version of the Prague metro ID card
as a substitute for the full "Czech" Prague metro ID Card. So far we have limited
information
as to how this new two tier system will work. Our recommendation
is that you
push as
best you can to buy the full Metro ID card. Please eMail your
experiences to us
so that we can endeavour to support you and lobby for you.
Nevertheless, if you
can only obtain a "foreigners" metro ID card, we understand
that it is still worthwhile to purchase it, even if it does not give the
price advantage
of
a full ID card.
The "full" metro ID card (price 460kc zone P plus
230kc zone 1) is
"casova jizdenka vydana na zaklade poskytnuti osobnich
udaju".
The "foreigners" metro ID card (price 560kc zone P plus 230kc zone
1) is
"casova jizdenka bez poskytnuti osobnich udaju".
The filled-in metro ID application form looks like this (click here)
The
Dejvice Metro "Booking Office" is not the same
as the "Ticket Office".
Dejvice Metro Station runs East West beneath the
Dejvice Roundabout, near the Hotel Diplomat.
Dejvice Metro is on three levels,
Level 0 Street level
Level -1 Concourse level and
Level -2 Platform level.
Ticket Offices, stationers shops selling tickets, and
ticket machines are situated on the concourse level (-1) at both the East and
also
the West ends of the station. The Booking Office is situated on the
concourse
level (-1) midway between the East and the West ends of the Dejvice
Metro
Station
(look for a small glass window within the metro station labelled "MHD").
